Lochs and Glens North Day 3 – Callander to Aberfeldy
Lochs and Glens North Day 3 of our tour has arrived already. Day 2 was spectacular, could Day 3 be any better?
It was rather damp as we set off – more like low cloud rather than rain, so it wasn’t too bad. We weren’t overly keen to get started.
We left The Waverley in Callander, passing the local lake and heading towards Strathyre.
We followed what appeared to be an old railway track, climbing gently all the way.
We continued climbing as we followed Loch Lubnaig.
Towards the end of Loch Lubnaig, there were some steep zig-zag’s, which as well as being steep had a rough surface.
At the top of this path, we found a broken sign, which made us think that the construction crew had drunk a few too many whiskys!
We then dropped down into Strathyre, where we were going to take a break.
We went to Broch Cafe, which was a great place with really good cake!
Our route then took us along The Rob Roy Way.
We passed over a little metal viaduct.
Just as we reached Loch Earn, the path rose steeply via some zigzag’s again, however this time the path surface was easier to cycle than the previous one. There were some good views of Loch Earn as we climbed up.
The views from the top were great!
We continued climbing up to Glen Ogle Viaduct, which we had to stop on – just for Tracey, even though she wasn’t with us!
We continued climbing along Glen Ogle.
We had to cross over the A84, heading into Acharn Forest.
We then dropped back down towards the River Dochart.
We stopped at the Falls of Dochart Inn in Killin for our lunch break.
This was next to the spectacular Falls of Dochart.
After lunch, we started climbing again.
The path basically followed the length of Loch Tay, all the way to Kenmore.
We stopped briefly about halfway along Loch Tay to appreciate the views.
We then continued into Kenmore.
Just as we were getting into Kenmore, we passed the Scottish Crannog Centre.
Kenmore is at the end of Loch Tay.
We had hoped to get a drink but we were too late, so improvised at the side of the road and had a snack bar.
We climbed up a little as we left Kenmore and the cycled along the valley, where the River Tay ran, all the way into Aberfeldy.
As we got closer to our destination, the scenery changed and was less hilly. At Weem, we turned off and cycled into Aberfeldy, where we were staying for the night, at the Schiehallion Hotel.
We had cycled just under 46 miles and had climbed about 3000 feet again. It has been another challenging day, but yet again the views were spectacular!
