Lincolnshire Lost Lanes Day 5 – Cleethorpes to Barnetby-Le-Wold
We enjoyed our evening meal in Cleethorpes. Now, our Lincolnshire Lost Lanes Day 5, our last day of cycling, would see us cycle to Barnetby-Le-Wold. Here we would catch the train home.
The weather was still kind to us as we made our way down to the coast road.
We had only cycled a few miles when Andy S realised he had left his pannier at our overnight accommodation.
So, we hurried back to collect it. We had a train to catch, so no time to waste!
Then, pannier now collected, we cycled towards Grimsby.
Our route took us around the edge of Grimsby docks.
Then out along the Humber Estuary for the next few miles.
Soon, we were overlooking South Humber Power station. Here we left the coast and headed inland.
The road took us alongside the power station.
We followed South Marsh Road to Stallingborough.
Then on through Keelby and back towards the Lincolnshire Wolds.
After passing through Great Lumber we rejoined NCN Route 1 again.
This took us off-road for a short while.
The path skirts the edge of Humber Airport. It also gradually petered out …
Thankfully (for us), it was only a relatively short section and soon we were back on tarmac again.
We were only a short distance from Barnetby-Le-Wold, our final destination.
In fact, we arrived at the railway station just as a train was arriving. Andy S and I rushed over the bridge and along the platform to just about make it onto the train. It was a rushed ending to what had been an enjoyable and tranquil few days of cycling.
