JOGLE Day 2 – Tongue to Tain
JOGLE Day 2 began with a game of ‘lost + found’ when Sarah inadvertantly misplaced our room key. All six of our JOGLE team searched around the hostel for over half an hour for the missing key but to no avail. Eventually we reached the point where we had to leave, and just as we were about to do so Sarah found the key …in her trouser pocket. Numpty!
It would be difficult to match that for a start to the morning, but we did so. Immediately climbing out of Tongue we looked out over the Kyle of Tongue and the views were magnificent.
And the views just kept on coming.
The day would be defined by cycling alongside water. And we were soon cycling along our first ones – Loch Craggie and Loch Loyal.
The scenery was stunning – a view around every corner.
Our first planned stop in the morning was at Altnaharra, but as with the JOGLE Day 1 the place was closed! So we improvised again.
We continued along the A836 towards the Crask Inn.
We have been reasonably fortunate with the weather but climbing up to the Crask Inn was into a headwind and some rain. Thankfully it soon passed by.
After this, for the rest of the day, the route was predominantly downhill.
Lunch was taken at The Pier Cafe in Lairg. And whilst the temperatures for the day were still generally cool, we were able to sit outside for lunch in the sun.
Then we were back on the A836 again.
We came across The Falls of Shin and decided to have a look. They were impressive.
We passed Carbisdale (Invershin) Castle.
Next, we reached Bonar Bridge.
The final part of our journey for the day was a ‘sprint’ along the A836 to Tain.
We arrived in Tain having cycled 65 miles and climbed 2300 feet. Tonight we are staying at the Morangie Hotel.
Then we headed into Tain for our evening meal.
