Jodrell Bank – Two Rides in Reverse
This latest Stockport Community Cycling Club ride was a repeat of Neil’s Jodrell Bank ride earlier in the year – but in reverse and with a few tweaks.
Sarah was leading the ride, but when we arrived at Wilmslow Leisure Centre and there was already a healthy gathering of club members … and the numbers kept growing … it quickly became clear that I would be leading a ride too! Soon there were over thirty of us.
The photos are mainly from the ride I led. Leading a ride and taking photos at the same time is tricky, but thankfully I managed to take a few and am glad I did for it proved quite a memorable day.
Having let Sarah’s group set off first, we left it for ten minutes or so before setting off ourselves through the back lanes of Wilmslow.
We made our way towards Knolls Green.
Perhaps a little surprisingly, as we continued through Warford and Marthall we came across Sarah’s group. Turns out they had stopped for a break … as they left we decided to take their place and enjoy a rest too.
After the short rest we continued on our way following the lanes through Over Peover and towards Goostrey.
We were taking lunch early so it wasn’t too long before we saw the famous Jodrell Bank telescope dish.
And once again we met up with Sarah’s group. Mind you, we weren’t the only cycling groups. Even though we had arrived early there were already at least two other cycling groups already present. Thankfully, the food service was quick and the offerings tasty.
Our group at lunch …
Back on the road we headed off for Alderley Edge.
Usually Artists Lane is involved when cycling around Alderley Edge, as it had been on Neil’s original ride. Instead this time we decided to cycle up via Bradford Lane and Hocker Lane.
This involved a short stretch of cobbles …
And then some track …
Before eventually returning to tarmac …
We then navigated our way around the edge of Prestbury and through Mottram St Andrew.
There was still time for one last bit of fun as we get held up in a traffic jam …
We completed the ride having cycled nearly 30 miles. It had proved an interesting and enjoyable ride, and everyone seemed to have enjoyed the day out around the Cheshire lanes.
