Heald Green – An Urban Cycle Ride
Following my hip operation last year, finally being able to get back on my bike has been fantastic. Unfortunately, this has coincided with the time of year when the weather is more often than not unfavourable. Thankfully, for this ride out to Heald Green, we were greeted with a reasonable outlook. Cool, but just about ok. Today, it was just Sarah and me.
Leaving Great Moor, we took a route alongside the A6, starting with making our way through Stepping Hill hospital. This time there was no overnight stay, I was straight in and straight out!
We continued on through Hazel Grove.
After Hazel Grove, we turned on to the A555, the Airport Bypass.
When turning onto the bypass we also turned straight into a headwind. It would make the six or so miles we cycled along the bypass somewhat tougher. I needed to step up on the exercise regime anyway!
We also passed a few familiar faces …
The bypass took us past Bramhall.
Then Cheadle Hulme.
Before finally, on the fringe of Heald Green we turned into Styal Road and headed for the urban roads.
We began by following a section of the Airport Orbital Cycleway.
A little further on we joined NCN Route 558.
Then, after arriving in Heald Green, we turned off down Brown Lane.
Continuing to follow NCN Route 558, we made our way towards the A34 and the path alongside Kingsway.
Followed by the underpath taking us under the A34.
This lead us on to Broadway and then briefly into Brookfields Park.
After leaving the park we cycled up Brookfield Road.
Then made our way along the Ladybrook Cycleway.
This brought us out near Cheadle Hulme. From here we made our way up Tenement Lane.
Finally, we weaved our way through Bramhall and Woodsmoor.
This, for me, had been another enjoyable cycle ride. I am fully appreciating the joy of being able to get back on the bike again, no matter the weather. This route might not have been the most exciting I have cycled but even in urban surroundings, it is still possible to enjoy cycling.
