Goostrey – Again
Having returned from our Celtic Trail tour the previous evening we decided to quickly get back to normality and join Stockport Community Cycling Club on their Sunday ride to Goostrey. The club regularly visits Goostrey (see here, here and here for example) and this usually doesn’t involve hills, but Andy S was leading this one … so would he find one somewhere?
We met by Wilmslow Leisure Centre and on a warm sunny day there was a healthy group of twenty-two of us.
Then headed out through Wilmslow town centre and the back streets.
Soon we were into the Cheshire lanes around Mobberley.
After a few miles we gathered together and had a rethink. The problem was that the warm weather had also brought out the car drivers including the idiots who think they own the road and are impatient. With our cycling group being a large one we presented an obstacle.
For our own safety we decided to split into two groups, with Andy S leading the first group, and I along with Sarah and Neil leading the second.
Our second group then continued on our way towards Lower Peover.
It wasn’t too long before we caught up with the first group due to one of their cyclists having a puncture.
Now, the second group became the first group.
Before long we reached Goostrey.
Our lunch was taken at Goostrey Home and Leisure. This is a popular stop for cyclists due to its location. The gluten-free options are a bit sparse but they happily made Sarah a cheese salad in spite of not offering it on the menu.
It wasn’t too long either when our first (second?) group arrived too.
Soon our second group (now the first) were on the road again with a few new members who had finished their meal early replacing a few who had chosen to stay and relax a little longer with a second cuppa.
We headed back through Blackden Heath and towards Jodrell Bank.
And then Chelford.
We then cycled towards Alderley Edge.
And returned via the A34 bypass.
Finally we returned to Wilmslow.
This had been a gentle 30 mile cycle ride around the lanes of Cheshire on a fine sunny day, and no big hills – thanks Andy! 🙂 Just what we wanted after our tour really.
