Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey 2016
Sunday brought the latest version of this ever popular Stockport Community Cycling Club ride, Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey 2016, taking us around the on a journey around the Wirral.
We met at Otterspool Drive car park on a glorious sunny Sunday morning. The sun-cream was quickly lashed on to the white skin of the SCCC cyclists … and off we went …
We cycled along Otterspool Promenade.
At Brunswick Dock we had to wait while a yacht entered.
Soon we arrived at the Mersey Ferries building to catch the ‘Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey’ to Seacombe. It was extremely busy along the waterfront this morning for the International River Mersey Festival was taking place as we passed through.
A quick cup of coffee and we set off to board the ferry.
At Seacombe we continued along NCN 56 as we cycled along Wallasey seafront
We cycled through New Brighton
Then on towards Hoylake.
For lunch we stopped at the Green Lodge Hotel. As usual, this provided plenty of vegetarian options but not too many gluten-free ones. Still, the food that was provided was enjoyable and good value.
Before we left however there was a puncture to fix.
With time beginning to press, Alan, Sarah and I stayed back while the others moved on and after fixing the puncture chased to catch up.
We cycled through Saughall Massey.
We next followed Arrowe Brook.
And then we cycled through Arrowe Park.
From here we weaved our way through Upton.
And then Bidston.
And then Liscard.
We cycled through Central Park.
Before finally returning to Wallasey promenade.
Overhead was an air display.
It had been a bit of a rush but thankfully we made the late afternoon return ferry.
Once again we made our way back along Otterspool promenade. Passing these tall ships …
It had been a fantastic sunny day for cycling along the waterfront. We had completed nearly 32 miles. For Sarah and I it had been excellent preparation for our Reivers Route tour starting tomorrow. Hopefully there will be more sunshine just like today!
