E2E Day 13 – Windermere to Carlisle

E2E Day 13 – Windermere to Carlisle

E2E Day 13. We are in to the second half of our End-to-End now and today was our last day in England. And what a lovely day it was.

Upon leaving Windermere YHA we headed up the Kirkstone Pass.

Their had been talk the previous evening of how ‘horrendous’ this climb was. Frankly however this proved false. Maybe we are seeing that we are now much stronger riders, maybe we treated it with respect but the 5 mile pass proved challenging, slow but in the end a lot less daunting. Not only that but the scenery was fantastic. Sarah had eaten a couple of bowls of gluten free porridge and this seems to have done the trick. Today the cycling presented no problems.

Lunch was taken at the Cycling Cafe at Greystoke. This is a wonderfully quirky little place (it holds quirky workshops too!). The weather was fantastic and we took the opportunity to do a bit of sunbathing in the garden.

And then it was on to Carlisle along one of the old Roman roads. Like many Roman roads this was flat and straight …oh, and long.

I never thought I would find a long flat road tedious but this came pretty close.

This evening we are staying at a Premier Inn, and our friends Andy and Sylvia came over from Hawick to see us. We have enjoyed a wonderful evening catching up.

So, tomorrow it is Scotland …
