Davenham
This ride to Davenham, which Leslie called a ‘Cheshire meander’ was the first Stockport Community Cycling Club ride she has led.
We met in a layby near the Chelford roundabout on a cool and pleasant Autumn Sunday morning. There was a healthy turnout of club members.
Our route began by heading down Peover Lane towards Peover Heath.
We then cycled through Blackden Heath and towards Goostrey.
We joined NCN Route 573.
In Goostrey, we took a short break by the local convenience store on Boothbed Lane.
Our cycle route continued on to Boots Green, then turned on to Middlewich Road.
This took us over the M6.
A little further along, since we were on target to arrive at our lunch stop a little early, we took another short break. This time at Shakerley Mere.
Sarah decided to take a ride on a big fish!
Back on our bikes again, we continued on towards Lach Dennis.
From Lach Dennis we made our way on towards Davenham.
We were still a little early when we arrived at the Bulls Head. The inn dates back to the 18th century.
We sat outside for our lunch. There wasn’t lots of vegetarian choices, however, they did have gluten-free rolls, so Sarah was able to enjoy a hearty sandwich.
After lunch, we picked up the cycle lane alongside the A556. We followed this for a few miles.
Eventually, we turned on to Penny’s Lane and cycled back through Lach Dennis.
We turned on to Hangman’s Lane.
Next, we made our way through Swan Green, Lower Peover and Toft.
After a brief rest, we returned to Over Peover.
Here we turned off for Snelson.
Finally, we turned on to Chelford Road and cycled back to the start.
We had cycled 30 miles, and this had been an enjoyable route created by Leslie.
