Lochs and Glens North
Since 2010, a group of friends from Stockport Community Cycling Club have undertaken a week-long summer cycle tour. This 2019 Lochs and Glens North tour will be our tenth. This route followed on from our Lochs and Glens South tour which we completed in 2017. The team this year comprised of Andy P, Sarah, Andy S, Andy S, Neil, and Des.
Our previous summer tours have included Wainwright Coast-to-Coast, Wales Coast-to-Coast – Lon Las Cymru, Coast and Castles South, Pennine Cycleway, End-to-End (JOGLE), Celtic Trail, Lochs and Glens South and Ravens Route.
Indeed, when cycling the End-to-End (JOGLE), we cycled a section of this route – though in the opposite direction.
According to Sustrans ‘This stunningly beautiful part of National Route 7, between Inverness and Glasgow, passes through two fantastic National Parks’. Indeed The Guardian additionally says ‘It would be hard to imagine a more beautiful UK long-distance ride. If two national parks – including Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, and the stunning Cairngorms – weren’t enough, the route also takes you past six lochs, numerous castles and over the Glen Ogle viaduct’. Add to this the traffic-free route through the Drumochter Pass (one of Britain’s highest transport corridors), one of the highlights of the whole cycle network. Lochs and Glens North proved to be a memorable week.
