Coast & Castles North Day 2 – Kinross to Drumoig
Coast and Castles North Day 2 would take us from Kinross to Drumoig via St Andrews. More importantly, today was Sarah’s birthday!
We left Windlestrae Hotel in Kinross on a cool but pleasant morning.
We set off cycling towards the shores of Loch Leven.
After leaving the lake shore we made our way through Wester Balgedie.
And on into Fife and alongside the edge of Lomond Hills Regional Park.
And then briefly into the park itself.
We stopped for a break at The Centre for Stewardship near to Falkland Palace.
And afterward continued through the Burgh of Falkland itself.
After cycling through Freuchie we climbed towards Burnturk and Cults.
Eventually, we looked down towards St Andrews.
Here we enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Northpoint Cafe.
Refreshed, we decided to visit the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral.
We then passed the remains of St Andrews Castle.
Before finishing off our whistlestop visit by passing by the 18th hole of St Andrews Golf course.
Continuing on, we cycled through Leuchars.
Our final destination for the day was Drumoig. This took us away from National Cycle Network route 1. We were stopping at the Drumoig Golf Hotel.
We had cycled nearly 48 miles by the time we arrived at the finish.
At the hotel, we were hoping to enjoy a fabulous evening meal celebrating Sarah’s birthday. Things, however, didn’t exactly go to plan. For the restaurant menu, it turned out, was unavailable. Nonetheless, Sarah was still able to enjoy sharing a birthday evening in good company. The birthday meal itself, however, will just have to wait until tomorrow …
