Chastleton House – Afternoon Tea and a Country House

Chastleton House – Afternoon Tea and a Country House

Our next excursion was to Oxford for a few days. Our plans had been to stop off on the way down for a cycle ride. Unfortunately the weather had different plans – snow in the air and a biting wind,  so we had a change of plan.  On our way down to Oxford, we stopped off at a place called Moreton-in-Marsh for a look around.

It seemed quite a quaint little place, although it did seem to have an abundance of tea shops! One was called Mrs T Potts and had lots of different teapots in the window. Andy spotted that they had a gluten free menu, so we just had to go in and sample some of their offerings – an opportunity not to be missed! We shared a cream tea (gluten free fruit scones with jam and clotted cream) and a piece of gluten free carrot cake. It was all fantastic!

It was time to move on though, so we got back in the car and drove to the National Trust property called Chastleton House. We arrived at 14:50 to find that the last entry into the house was at 15:00, so we had to rush down and get our tickets. It was a fascinating place with lots of interesting things to see. Here are just a few of the pictures that were taken.

Although it was really cold and there was snow in the air,  there were signs of spring in the grounds.

We were glad to get back into the car out of the cold!

We were staying the the Oxford Peartree Travelodge, which is actually on the outskirts of Oxford next to the park and ride. That evening we had a little walk around and were surprised by the bikes which were everywhere!

It was surprising to us that they were just outside.  Some just appeared to be lent against lampposts and not even chained up.
