A Christmas Day Walk around Mirrlees Fields

A Christmas Day Walk around Mirrlees Fields

The coronavirus pandemic has meant this has been a year like no other. Sarah and I were due to spend Christmas Day with my brother in Bournemouth, but in the current climate, this wasn’t really an option. Thankfully, we were able to have our friend Andy, who is in our social bubble, over instead.  The pre-Christmas week had seen a couple of milestones for Sarah and me. Firstly, I had finally been able to get back on my bike following…

Mirrlees Fields – A Little Autumn Walk

Mirrlees Fields – A Little Autumn Walk

The loch is a small freshwater lake in the Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve, situated a few miles east of Ballater. We parked just off the B9119. There is a circular walking route around the loch. We set off in an anti-clockwise direction following the blue/white duck waymarkers. We immediately…

Braemar Circular Walk via Lions Face

Braemar Circular Walk via Lions Face

Saturday was a good day for a walk – the Braemar Circular Walk via Lions Head. We parked in the car park next to Braemar Castle. We didn’t go to the castle but picked up the footpath on the opposite side of the road, as short distance away. As we were following the road to get to the start of the footpath, we spotted a dragon fly on the floor. The footpath initially followed the road heading away from Braemar…
