Montacute House and Tintinhull Garden

Montacute House and Tintinhull Garden

After yesterday’s challenging day of cycling I took the opportunity today to spend some time relaxing by visiting National Trust‘s Montacute House and Tintinhull Garden. Both places are just a few miles from Yeovil. First of all I visited Montacute House, arriving mid-morning on an overcast but thankfully warm morning. Montacute House is an example Elizabethan Renaissance architecture and design. It commands a central position in the village sharing its name. The mansion was built as a statement to impress…

Chester Zoo – Nellyphants, rhino’s and a butterfly paradise

Chester Zoo – Nellyphants, rhino’s and a butterfly paradise

This was the beginning of weekend on the Wirral. ‘Where shall we go?’ ‘How about Chester Zoo?’. ‘Yeah, I love that place. I haven’t been there for years!’ (though we have had a peep when cycling along the bridleway through the middle of the zoo many times). We had booked a couple of days stay at a Village Hotel on the Wirral. So on a cool but thankfully fairly bright Friday morning we made our way over to the zoo. There’s a…

Chester – The Cathedral, the Christmas Market and the City Walls

Chester – The Cathedral, the Christmas Market and the City Walls

Our Chester weekend wasn’t our original plan. We had been due to attend a special family event, but this fell through. However we decided to continue with the idea of a weekend break anyway. Thankfully there was a refectory in the old monks dining hall so we tucked into…

Dunham Massey is the Stamford Military Hospital

Dunham Massey is the Stamford Military Hospital

Having missed the SCCC Salt Line ride the previous day due to Open University commitments, followed by more study on the Sunday morning I was ready to make the most of some decent Autumn weather and to get out somewhere. We decided upon a visit to the National Trust’s Dunham Massey and, as it turned out, the Stamford Military Hospital commemoration. Whilst we often cycle around Dunham Massey parish, and have even ran a 10k around the area earlier in the year, it has…

Devoted – Newark, Lincoln & Southwell

Devoted – Newark, Lincoln & Southwell

This blog doesn’t often focus on our church activities, one Sunday morning service is the same as another it might be argued. However, last weekend we attended the Devoted 2015 Festival. This is a ChristCentral organised event based at Newark Showground and we attended with our Stockport Family Church friends. The weekend wasn’t all churchy, however. Each day we took the opportunity to get out and visit the local area. We arrived on a Thursday evening. Then on Friday following the…
