Braemar Circular Walk via Lions Face
Saturday was a good day for a walk – the Braemar Circular Walk via Lions Head. We parked in the car park next to Braemar Castle.
We didn’t go to the castle but picked up the footpath on the opposite side of the road, as short distance away.
As we were following the road to get to the start of the footpath, we spotted a dragon fly on the floor.
The footpath initially followed the road heading away from Braemar towards Ballater.
After a while, the footpath left the road
The heather was all out in flower and was looking spectacular!
Our route started to climb up through the trees.
At the top, just past Lions Face rock, we stopped for our lunch on a very convenient bench, which also had great views!
After lunch, we continued on our walk. As always, the dog lead the way! Initially the walk was then back down hill.
We then climbed back up over another hill.
Having reached the top there were more great views
We then started our descent into Braemar.
Along the way we passed a great den that someone had constructed. Sally and I decided we had to try it out!
When we arrived in Braemar, went went to the Bothy for some tea and cake. Having had some refreshments, it was time to pop into the outdoor shop next door for a bit of retail therapy.
It was then time to go back to the car. We retraced our steps a little way.
Then it was back onto the footpath to continue our circucular walk
Later in the evening we went out for a meal at an Indian Restaurant called Lasan in Westhill, near Aberdeen. It was a great meal and somewhere that I would happily return to!
