Big Stockport Cycle
The Big Stockport Cycle is part of the Stockport Big Event Series which includes walking and running events as well as the cycling. This event, in it’s second year is organised by Lifeleisure in association with Decathlon. Their aim is to encourage people to challenge themselves and to take part in a mass participation event.
Stockport Community Cycling Club members went along to assist in marshalling the event.
This was mass participation cycle and well over 100 cyclists decided to turn up on what was an overcast but actually perfect day for cycling.
The route began by taking us out towards Reddish Vale.
Sarah and I acted as a ‘bridge’ at the back of the ride, taking over from the last marshal’s, giving them the opportunity to cover a further post whilst the last riders came past. In the event we ended up ‘marshalling’ the last group of riders round. Of course this meant that pretty soon we lost sight of all the rest of the riders except for the last few!
From Reddish the route then skirted Brinnington and headed over towards Bredbury.
Then over the new Chadkirk Bridge as it made its way towards the Middlewood Way.
The route then took us through Offerton.
We went through Woodbank Park
The last cyclists to arrive back were William and his father. However William was without question the cyclist of the day and exactly why the Stockport Big Stockport Cycle was so much fun. For young William had cycled 20 big miles around Stockport on his little bike. Well done William!
