Beverley – SCCC Hull Club Weekend Shorter Ride Sneek-Peek
This recce cycle ride to Beverley was our final one for the forthcoming Stockport Community Cycling Club weekend. We had had already recced rides to the Humber Bridge and Market Weighton, this will be the shorter Sunday ride.
Once again it was back to the start at Hull University. It was another sunny and hot day.
The route began by taking us out of Hull via Cottingham.
Different from the longer ride, the shorter route took us through Cottingham town centre.
Then on to Westfield Road and through Eppleworth.
It was a steady climb for the first eight miles.
We then turned towards Rowley.
Before picking up a national byway that took us towards Little Weighton.
Since it was such a hot day we decided to take a break at Croft Cafe. Unfortunately, it appeared closed, and it was. We were told this by someone who appeared to work there, and she kindly offered to make us each a pot of tea.
Back on the road, we cycled through Little Weighton
Our route then took us through Walkington.
We soon reached the edge of Beverley and made our way through Westwood Pasture.
This brought us to the outskirts of the town.
Our lunch stop was taken at Vanessa Delicatessen and Cafe in the town square. The food was hearty and tasty.
On the club weekend, the riders won’t be having lunch at Vanessa’s, rather they will be having lunch at Cafe Velo. However, we weren’t able to test the food here, since it doesn’t open on a Monday. Never mind, for Sarah, who will be leading this ride on the weekend, there will be another opportunity.
Back on the road, we passed St Mary’s Church, the other impressive church in Beverley.
We then used the bike lanes along Hull Bridge Road. For a while, the traffic has been diverted on to a bypass, and we were able to follow the old road over the River Hull.
Then we picked up another National Byway route which eventually turned off the main road at Meaux Lane.
We followed this for a while. This brought us to Kingswood, and back into Hull again.
There was a fantastic wildflowers display on the side of one of the roads.
We tried a few different alternatives around Bude Park but settled on the cycle lane along Thomas Clarkson Way.
We turned on to NCN Route 66 and crossed over the River Hull again.
Finally, after navigating the back streets of Hull we returned to the university.
Our route had covered just over 32 miles, though the route on the day will be nearer to 29. It had once again been another great cycle ride.
