Pennine Cycleway Day 3 – Bellingham to Alston

Pennine Cycleway Day 3 – Bellingham to Alston

Today on Pennine Cycleway – Day 3 we cycled from Bellingham to Alston. Bellingham Bunkhouse was a good place to stay. The ride started with a big climb – a theme for the day! As we reached Keilder Forest, we found some interesting scarecrows. Once past Keilder,  we crossed over Hadrian’s Wall. We stopped at Haltwhistle for lunch. Our route to Alston mainly followed an old railway line. Tracey really wanted to look at Lambley Viaduct, so Ian went with her…

We looked around the town, the ramparts and the lighthouse. We even got to see a grey seal out swimming as well as…

Longdendale Ride

Longdendale Ride

The forecast for Saturday when I looked on Friday evening was that it would be dry but cold. Saturday morning was rather a shock when I get up as it was pouring with rain! I told Andy that I didn’t want to go – but he just laughed at me. We set off anyway and cycled to the starting point of the SCCC ride, which for Saturday was Longdendale. Our ride to the official starting point was 15.4 miles for…

PUMA Stockport 10 2013

PUMA Stockport 10 2013

The day was rather overcast and chilly as we arrived at the stadium in Woodbank Park for the PUMA Stockport 10 2013 race, organised by Stockport Harriers. Neither of us had been to the track before. Our first port of call was the tent to collect our race numbers. This race is rather different to the Conwy Half Marathon in that race is not such a serious business. There was a fabulous commentator there called ‘Tom Potson’ who provided a…
