An Easter Sunday Cycle Ride out to New Mills and Whaley Bridge
Sarah and I had originally planned on doing lots of work on the house over the Easter weekend. However, with us both feeling a little exhausted we took the time to recharge our batteries. We have, however, enjoyed a couple of cycle rides, to Prestbury on Good Friday, and today out to New Mills.
It was already a fine morning when we set off and crossed the A6.
We continued on and a little further on made our way along Marple Road.
Next, we made our way down Brabyns Brow.
Then up Glossop Road.
It was a long climb, but after turning into Sandhill Lane, the views made it all worthwhile.
We took our time absorbing all the views as we enjoyed cycling along this quiet lane.
A mile or so further on, we turned into Gun Road and joined NCN Route 68.
NCN Route 68 is a favourite our friend Andy S and its full length forms the Pennine Cycleway. We cycled this a few years back.
Gun Road turned into Shiloh Road. Of course, there were more fantastic views.
After crossing Moor End Road we picked up Castle Edge Road.
At the end of the road, a steep drop brought us to New Mills.
After cycling through the centre of New Mills, a climb up another hill took us towards Furness Vale.
From Furness Vale we cycled on towards Buxworth.
Eventually, we reached Whaley Bridge.
We then picked up Whaley Lane, and a long steady climb took us out towards Disley.
At the top, there were yet more fantastic views as we looked out towards Eccles Pike.
Then we dropped down into Disley.
Finally, we cycled down the A6.
Which brought us back to Stockport.
This had been a fantastic little cycle ride. These are tough times as we all work our way through this coronavirus pandemic. Thankfully, we are allowed one form of exercise each day and this means we can get out and do some cycling. While this should be close to home, our cycle ride today showed that we don’t have to go far to get out of the suburbs and enjoy the fantastic countryside.
