Alderley Circular
This Stockport Community Cycling Club Alderley Circular ride was one I hadn’t planned on attending. However, the original back leader had a poorly bike, so I agreed to step in. Since I was the back leader, and Sarah is still recovering from a broken shoulder, it hopefully explains why most of the photos in this post are taken from the back!
We met in the lay-by in front of the Deanwater Hotel, Woodford. It was a wet Autumn morning. Most of the riders who had booked to join us, therefore, dropped out. As a result this meant it was a small team of six who set off towards Wilmslow.
John was leading this ride. We began by leaving Wilmslow Road and turning into Lees Lane, followed by Mill Lane, and cycling through Mottram St Andrew.
At Mottram St Andrew we turned into Mottram Road towards Alderley Edge.
Then, in the centre of Alderley Edge, we joined Chorley Hall Lane.
A little further on we picked up the cycle path alongside Melrose Way, the A34.
After leaving the A34 we joined Sossmoss Lane. In doing so we were also joining local cycle network route 70, the Cheshire Cycleway.
We followed the Cheshire Cycleway route through to Great Warford.
Here we turned off towards Lindow End.
We then cycled into Wilmslow.
However, before reaching the town centre, we turned off towards Lindow Common.
We cycled around the perimeter of Lindow Common, before crossing Altrincham Road, and cycling down to The Carrs.
We took a short break at the far end of the park.
Having had a rest we headed up Cliff Road, crossed over Styal Road and then headed along Lacey Green.
After joining Manchester Road, we cycled towards Handforth.
Then after Handforth, we joined the A555, the Manchester Airport Relief Road.
We followed the path alongside the Relief Road for a few miles.
Then at Bramhall, we turned off and into Hall Moss Lane.
Finally, we made our way back to Woodford.
We cycled 20 miles today. It had been a tad wet, however, this hadn’t spoilt the cycle ride. This had been an enjoyable cycle round around Alderley Edge and Wilmslow.
