Alan Newton Way
Sarah and I had a free Saturday, so we decided to book on this new Stockport Community Cycling Club cycle ride taking in the Alan Newton Way. Jim was leading this ride and Tracey was the back-leader.
We met at Hazel Grove Park & Ride on a cool Saturday morning.
Our ride began by weaving our way through the back streets behind the Park & Ride.
This brought us out on to Buxton Road.
We weren’t on the main road for long, however, sooning turning into Threaphurst Lane.
We were briefly held up by the local traffic …
After turning into Torkington Lane, we then joined the Middlewood Way, NCN Route 55.
We followed this to Rose Hill, Marple.
Continuing to follow NCN Route 55, we made our way down to the Alan Newton Way.
This section of NCN Route 55 is named after Stockport’s 1952 Olympic medal winning cyclist.
Once on the Way, we cycled down to Chadkirk Bridge.
Then picked up a section of the Goyt Valley.
This took us past Goyt Valley Hall.
Continuing to follow NCN Route 55 we eventually arrived at Woodbank Park and entered via the newly created back route into the park.
After crossing over the bridge there is a steady climb up to the main part of the park.
We took a short break here. Of course, it was here where we had to fix a puncture just as it was starting to rain.
After leaving the park, we worked our way through the back streets of Offerton.
Eventually arriving in St Thomas Recreation Ground.
Our ride didn’t stop there, however, no, we had to get back to Hazel Grove!
So, through the rain we continued cycling through Offerton to Hazel Grove.
We crossed over the A6.
Then made our way through Green Lane Park.
With everyone peeling off en-route to get out of the rain, only six of us arrived back at the start.
In spite of the rain, this had managed to be an enjoyable morning of cycling.
