Aberystwyth – The Pre-Mid Wales Cycle Tour Visit
There aren’t lots of trains to Aberystwyth, so Sarah and I journeyed down the day before our upcoming Mid Wales cycle tour. We took the opportunity to have a look around.
We began by making our way down to the seafront.
Since it was lunchtime we headed over to one of the local cafes, The Cabin.
It was an overcast day as we made our way over to Aberystwyth Castle.
The castle was originally built in the 13th century.
However, it quickly began to decay.
Over the centuries, the battering from English and Welsh forces, and the sea brought it to a state of ruin as early as the 17th century.
Thankfully, Aberystwyth Council have turned the area into a park allowing visitors to enjoy a stroll around the ruins.
From the castle, we then walked along the south promenade. At the end of the promenade is the marina.
After booking into the hotel, we then had a bit of time before our evening meal.
So, we strolled along the north promenade and walked up the hill at the end of it.
The path took us alongside the funicular railway. There were some fabulous views as we looked back over the town.
We continued took walk along the cliff path for a little while.
Before deciding to return.
Back on the promenade, we still had some time to kill. A couple of drinks and watching the world go by filled the time very nicely!
Finally, we reached our evening meal booking slot, so went over to Mama Fay’s and enjoyed some lovely Caribbean food.
Later, there was just enough time to wander back down to the beach. It was a fine and mellow evening.
Tomorrow, our Mid Wales cycle tour begins.
