A sunny afternoon at Biddulph Grange Garden
On Saturday we spent a sunny afternoon at Biddulph Grange Garden. Since I broke a couple of bones in my foot a few weeks ago, I have not been able to get out much as I wasn’t very mobile. Thankfully as time has gone on, I have slowly got more mobile and can now hobble around reasonably well. Andy was determined that we should go out and do something nice for a while and had suggested Biddulph Grange Garden, which is maintained by the National Trust. It is not somewhere that we had been to before but is certainly somewhere that we will go to again!
Having got there, we had to try out the cafe and sample tea and cake – they were good!
We sat outside with a great view out across the garden.
We then went down the steps towards the lake
From the bottom of the lake, we wandered across the tennis lawn and down lime avenue, then back round to the bottom of the lake.
There was a tunnel, so we went through it …
The path then took us along the Pinetum
At the end of the path was Cheshire Cottage
We came out the other side of the cottage onto Wellingtonia Avenue, where we stopped for a rest and some sandwiches which we had taken with us. It was lovely sitting on the grass at the side of the path, enjoying the sunshine.
We walked back towards the house to look at the gardens on the opposite side of the lake from where we had first started.
The path then took us into the china garden, named for obvious reasons.
Out of the back of the temple, we had to cross a little stream before climbing up and over a bridge through the glen and back around to the lake.
By the time we got back to the lake I was really tired, so we stopped for a rest, watching the fish for a while
We had managed to see most of Biddulph Grange gardens, much to Andy’s surprise – he thought we would just get to see a little part of it. It was then time for more tea and cake – needed to rest and refuel! After a trip to the shop and a little retail therapy, we headed back to the car.
As we were heading back to the car park, we spotted a sign for the Kitchen Garden, so took a detour and had a look there too. It was quite sloped so hobbling was a bit harder but there was an interesting mixture of flowers and vegetables.
It was a really enjoyable afternoon out. You may have spotted from the pictures of me, there we quite a lot of rests but there were some lovely places to sit and just enjoy life
