A Christmas Cycle Ride Around Bramhall and Poynton
I had thoroughly enjoyed getting back on my bike again after three months of no cycling following my crash and subsequent hip op. Unfortunately, Sarah hadn’t felt well enough to join me on that return cycle ride. So we upon this post-Christmas festivities Christmas cycle ride instead.
It was a dry but cold day, with temperatures hovering around freezing.
We set off through Woodsmoor.
Interestingly, Sarah also hasn’t been on her bike for a few months too. The Dunham Town cycle ride back in October being the last occasion.
From Woodsmoor we headed around the back of Bramhall Park.
Then through Bramhall.
We have moved back to our permanent residence since my previous bike ride. However, since Sarah hadn’t cycled that route, we decided follow a very similar route.
So, after Bramhall, we picked up the Airport Relief Road, the A555 and headed for Poynton.
After leaving the A555 at Poynton, we turned into Towers Road.
We then cycled up to Higher Poynton.
Then we briefly crossed over into Adlington
There followed a steady climb up Wood Lane West.
Towards the top, we took some steps down to the Middlewood Way, NCN Route 55.
Our route didn’t keep us on the Middlewood Way, just long enough to bring us back into Higher Poynton.
Next, we made our way along Shrigley Road North.
Then Green Lane.
Before turning into Middlewood Road and then down Norbury Hollow Road.
In the hollow, we had to wait while a couple of trains went by.
Once the traffic had cleared we made our way out of the hollow before cycling down Buxton Road.
Finally, we weaved our way through the back streets of Hazel Grove and the grounds of Stepping Hill hospital on our way back home.
We had cycled nearly 17 miles today. It had been a cold, but thankfully dry, cycle ride. The route and the distance were just enough to ensure it was an enjoyable one.
